4 _ Vetoquinol _ 2020 Roots VETOQUINOL, A HISTORY OF ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT A captivating story It all began 1933 in a pharmacy in the town of Lure, France, not far from the Swiss and German borders. Joseph Frechin had the instinct of an entrepreneur and began using the antiseptic properties of oxyquinoline to treat animals. The remedy, which became known as ‘Vétoquinol’, quickly made a name for itself, leading Joseph Frechin to add a veterinary department to his laboratory specialising in human medicine. By 1948, Vetoquinol had set up production and packaging facilities to meet demand and, in 1962, moved just outside Lure, in Magny-Vernois, to the company’s current headquarters. An international scale In 1962, Étienne Frechin joined his father’s company to focus on its development. Accelerating growth and developing exports, the company’s first subsidiaries were established in the Netherlands, then in Ireland and Belgium in the 1970s, and in all other major European countries in the years that followed. Vetoquinol also established bases in Canada and the United States in the 1990s, then in India in 2009 and finally Japan in 2015. Through various takeovers, Vetoquinol has weaved a genuinely global web, operating directly out of 24 countries, with a wider network of almost 100 distributors in 80 different countries. Matthieu Frechin’s commitment In April 2010, Matthieu Frechin was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Group. As the grandson of the company’s founder and the third generation to take the helm, his appointment reinforces the ambition of shareholders to keep driving forward Vetoquinol’s captivating story by continuing to be bold, committed and independent. To continue developing, Vetoquinol has decided to remain an independent laboratory. Its manageable size and family shareholding structure lead the company agility and the ability to quickly react, whilst entrepreneurial focus, an innovative approach and strong team spirit are the very best assets for developing the company, supporting customers and their needs in order to constantly stimulate our range of products and services. Since early 2017, Vetoquinol has been transforming itself as part of its current strategic plan (Vetoquinol In Motion). The laboratory is bringing in a new dynamic based on taking more initiative and working as a network. This transformation is founded on the values shared by our employees across 5 continents and will help us better fulfil our mission. 87 years ago, Joseph Frechin founded Vetoquinol, a company that hasn’t stopped growing and developing under the leadership of some visionary individuals ever since.
